Support for the Journey

Hundreds of immigrants settle in Colorado every year after fleeing persecution in their own home countries. They often arrive with little to no English, limited familiarity with U.S. culture, and no financial resources, making their journey long and full of challenges. You can help make that journey easier. Volunteer to support newcomers as they rebuild their lives and help us continue the tradition of welcoming them to great state!

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers provide support and connection with new Coloradoans that deepens the work our staff provides. If you are able to volunteer, we would love to help you get involved and make a difference in someone's life. Current opportunities include:

  • CWS Office Support: Use your organizational skills and abilities to assist the CWS Fort Collins staff at our office in various ways such as: filing paperwork, tracking data, calling clients (Spanish speakers needed), and general office assistance.
  • Immigration and Citizenship Assistant: Support our staff immigration attorney in helping people with an array of legal proceedings, including family petitions, Temporary Protected Status applications, Asylum, Adjustment of Status, and other case types.
  •  Event Planning Assistant: Are you great at details and enjoy planning events? Our development team is always looking for motivated community members to join us at our events, to help raise awareness of refugees and the work that CWS Fort Collins does.
  • Casual Conversation / Language Mentor: As newcomers learn English, the best tool is regular practice with a fluent speaker. You can support someone in this critical integration need simply by having conversation – in person or by phone on a regular basis.
  • Employment Services Community Mapping: Help identify employers and employment opportunities for new Coloradoans, locally and across the state. We work closely with people with work authorization, but who experience barriers to employment such as language fluency and transportation limitations.
  • Community Mapping: Language Program for new Americans: Help identify programs to help new Coloradoans improve their English language skills, locally and across the state. We work closely with people starting new lives in Colorado. Many people have fled their native countries and learning English is a primary need for employment and to get to know their neighbors.
